In this week’s Sun, meet Don Devereux, a 90-year-old Army veteran and investigative reporter now living a quiet life at the Yountville Veterans Home. His life, however, was anything but tranquil – he served in the military during the height of the Cold War, watching B52 bombers loaded with nuclear weapons take off and land from an air base 950 miles from Russian air space. Then he spent the next several decades investigating and reporting on corruption and organized crime in New Mexico and Arizona, where he was the target of two assassination attempts and uncovered the truth about another journalist’s murder.
Highway 29 Media reporter Mariela Gomez writes about the Napa County Suicide Prevention Council’s work to train hundreds of local residents to recognize and respond to signs that someone may be considering harming themselves.
Also, freelance writer Vincent Vitale shares Yountville wine curator and vintner Kerrin Laz’s efforts to support Alzheimer’s Disease research.
